Where are the pickleball courts that Carlisle Area Pickleball Association (CAPA) is fundraising for located?

Why was CAPA formed?

The purpose of the organization is for charitable and educational purposes, more specifically, to enhance the health and welfare of the general public by encouraging, organizing, and promoting the development and growth of Pickleball. The Association will strive to reduce the financial burden of the Carlisle Parks and Recreation and similar non-profit organization for the construction and improvements of Pickleball courts and related facilities in the Borough of Carlisle and the surrounding region.

Why isn’t the Borough of Carlisle paying to convert the tennis court into four dedicated pickleball courts?

The Borough of Carlisle has 18 parks to maintain. There were no provisions in the 2023 budget to convert the tennis court into four dedicated pickleball courts. CAPA is interested in refurbishing the courts as soon as possible and was granted permission to provide a plan to Carlisle Borough Council at their regularly scheduled June 8th meeting. The plan was unanimously approved. CAPA will be able to complete the work within the Borough’s guidelines and the courts will be available for dedicated pickleball play in the near future.

Why aren’t we applying for grants for this phase of the project?

The short timeline for this project prohibits writing a grant.

Can I deduct my donation on my taxes?

Donations going forward will qualify as valid contributions (and may qualify as deductions on your Federal Tax Return) as the approval and qualification as a 501(c)(3) will be retroactive to date of incorporation/organization which is March 3, 2023.

Who will own the refurbished courts and maintain them?

The Carlisle Parks and Recreation will still own the pickleball courts and maintain them after refurbishment.
